Recreation of FourFiveSeconds [ Post-Production ]

During the proccess of post-production we split each of the shots of each of the characters and filed them into seperate folders, for example; Isabel's Shots Franks's Shots Ben's Shots and finaly Group Shots This allowed the editing process to be much easier for us as it allowed much more accessibility. As well as this we renamed each shots with the times the were aloocated for the editing procces/the video. Each person was able to access each shot andf folder due to a google drive folder that Charlee set up and linked us all to.  We accessed each file and used to software AdobePremierPro to edit the footage to achieve the similar look and correspondance of the video. We viewed tutorias as a group and seperatly as well as seeking help from one another, others in our class and our teachers to familiarise ourselves with the software. We learnt how to add a black and white layer to whole the video instead of individual shots and added the mp3 file of the music to the vid...

Recreation of FourFiveSeconds [ Production ]

Through the stage of production our group worked efficently and well together to complete the task at hand. We worked all together to aid our camera workers to achieve the simmilar look of angle, distance and facus of each shot. The lighting was a difficult tas that we managed to overcome and achieve as well as we possibly could. There were no difficulties with how to acieve the shot or puzzling momentsof which shots we had todo and how to do them and this is all down to how well our pre-production phase was executed. As an actor who starred in it i can honestly say the the lipsynching aspect of the video was hard to perform as well as embarassing for me however as i view the results now i am pleased with the outcome. The studio at the school allowed us to create and mimic the mise en scene found in the original music video. Weattmpted through out filming to keep track of shots we had left to do by ticking them off however we lost track and got too caught up with just getting the shot ...

Recreation Of FourFiveSeconds [ Pre-Production ]

During Class we had tochoose the group of people we were choosing to work with and the result was a large group consisting of 6 people (George Silk, Charlee Fear, Frank Parnell, Ben Field, James Meadows and myslef). We then chose the video of FourFiveSeconds as it looked acomplishable and simple for a big group to recreate and Charlee Fear took the role of director and allocated us roles and tasks to complete. We also decided that instead of performing and recreating just a minuet of the video we would do the whole thing as we had the capacity and enough people to do so. Charlee Fear- Director George Silk- Editing and Camera Work James Meadows- Editing and Camera Work  Frank, Ben and I would perform as actors and the strs of the music video as Frank would play Paul McCartney, Ben would play Kanye West and I would play Rhianna's role.  I also decided to perform the task of watching the video and story boarding each individual angle and shot. In all honesty, as someone wh...

Music Videos From The 80s

This new-wave, Electro-punk, Pop-Rock and Alternative Norwegian band released this track in 1985. The video follows a narrative structure of a girl imagining a cartoon containing her lover in it. The bands lead singer Morten Harket taking on the role of star image. The video fits well with the stylised genre that the band falls into because it combines animation and visual effects into its music video which was an innovative and new thing to do at the time. Aha's video has been the most successful video to have followed this structure and it is considered quite iconic in the nower-day.  This New wave reggae-rock band released this performance based video in the year of 1983. Some artistic effects and transitions as well as camera angles and shots are included into this video. Artistic shots: the ash tray at the beginning and end, the chandelier, the man cleaning windows not to mention the delightful mise-en-scene of the use of a covered sofa to make it seem like the v...

Music Videos From The 60s

Mrs Robinson by Simon & Garfunkel was first heard as the soundtrack for the film  The Graduate staring Dustin Hoffman. The music video is a mixture of clips from film but no lyrical conventions are offered or represented. The artist is also not present in the music video. This video however does follow a narrative structure by sticking to a story line.   Aretha Franklin Respect. Originally written and released by Ottis Redding it wasn't until Aretha performed this track that it really caused uproar in society. Portraying the message of an independent women through the lyrics- displaying a woman's voice is just as loud as a man's- and the video of her performing in the middle of a street, not caring for people's opinions.  The Beach Boys Good Vibrations. In 1966 this became the most expensive record ever produced costing around $50,000. The video which was released 2016 to accompany this songs takes footage from the tour and the band at the time of the ...

Music Videos from the 50s

Image
Blueberry Hill- Fats Domino. This New Orleans Rhythm and Blues artist is seen in this video performing his cover of the song Blueberry Hill which was written in the 1940s. This version was so successful that it set a standard for further recording in the 50s and beyond such as Elvis and Led Zepplin's covers.  Summer Time Blues- Eddie Cochran. This performance video is a classic example of revolutionary rockabilly music as this video and song sees Cochran combining a bluegrass style with the new rock and roll sounds. This hit was very popular with teenagers who were emerging from the strong demographic of popular music. This song was written in response and retaliation to the popular summer time songs that were listened to at the time and highlighted the season's hardship instead. It appealed to young audiences due to to the almost anti authority theme and the fresh message which was attempting to be delivered.  Tutti Fruitti By Little Richard. This track, released la...

Music Video Techniques

Image
Cutting to the beat -   Every time a beat occurs, there is a different shot. The editing will have to keep up with the beat. an example of this is White Stripe's video Hardest Button To Button. Effects -  Effects are used in music videos to add to the narrative. The Major record labels will use effects in these videos. In the music video, ‘’I Need A Doctor’’ Dr. Dre  crashes 3 Lamborghini cars. Miming and Lip sync -   In every video Artists mine and lip sync their songs. However, in Feeder’s video, ‘’Just A Day’’ they layer homemade fans videos in their video, with the fans miming their lyrics, this allowed for the idea of them already being popular to come into play as well as sell them to other and newer fans.   Sinead O'Connors video Nothing Compares To You features long clips of her against a black background. In the end she begins to cry and it allows for viewers to sympathize with her as an artist. This song was originall...

Music Video Conventions

Image
Lyrical convention- This is where the the lyrics match the visuals in the video. For example in BTS' music video for RUN it features the group actually running during the lyric being sang. Another example would be Eminem's song Love the way you lie featuring Rihanna. On the lyric 'just gonna stand there and watch me burn' both Rihanna and the house behind her are on fire.  Extension or consolidation for the meaning of the song- The video extends the meaning of the song by featuring certain elements of the lyrics.  For example in The writings on the wall by OK GO- they feature writing and text which contains the lyrics of the song.   Allusion-  Referencing to other texts; this can also be referred to as intertextuality.  An example of this would be The Kill by 30 seconds to Mars which contains allusions to The Shining.  Links to other Artist-  Videos featuring other artists and linking to other artists. For exam...

Music Video and Genre Research

Image
Different music videos fit under different genres depending on the track. Genres of music determine the genre of the video which ultimately sells the song and the artist, categorising themselves into a distinctive style.  Homage music videos refer to other events with in the song and take inspiration from other elements of media like films or even literature- these could be seen as tributes and songs out of respect. They could link to important events that actually happened.  This song having been written by 2Pac     This video    is seen as a tribute to Tupac Shakur, this song was released ten years after his death and it was produced by Eminem. The artist 2Pac never appears in the video and neither does Elton John as samples from Indian Summer feature in this song. An actor, J.D Williams plays the artist of 2Pac and is presented through means of mise en scene as someone who does not involve himself in the life of drugs. The start of the music ...
